Emerson High School student dies in crash

EMERSON (AP) — An Emerson High School student died and two others were injured in a motor vehicle crash.

The accident happened Wednesday night in the Bergen County community. The student's death was shared with sudents at Emerson Junior-Senior High School in homeroom on Thursday morning. Superintendent Brian Gatens, in a message to parents, said counseling was available to those who needed it according to the Cliffview Pilot.

The dead student is a female and a senior. Her name has not been released.

Superintendent Brian Gatens tells The Record the injured students are expected to make a full recovery.

Gatens says officials met with classes on Thursday and the kids are "shocked and saddened."

Extracurricular activities, including the Junior Semi-Formal, have been canceled.
