Elementary school poised to be renamed after twin astronauts
A New Jersey elementary school is about to be renamed after twin astronauts Scott and Mark Kelly.
The Elementary School in West Orange on Thursday will become the Kelly Elementary School. The astronauts are alumni.
An invitation-only ceremony -- with a guest list that includes Gov. Chris Christie -- is planned Thursday morning. The district plans to stream the event live.
A free, public ceremony is scheduled that afternoon.
The brothers grew up in the town and went through the public school system before becoming Navy pilots and NASA astronauts.
Scott Kelly spent a U.S.-record 520 days in space. He retired last month.
Mark Kelly, who's married to former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, retired in 2011.
