The Elementary School in West Orange on Thursday will become the Kelly Elementary School. The astronauts are alumni.

An invitation-only ceremony -- with a guest list that includes Gov. Chris Christie -- is planned Thursday morning. The district plans to stream the event live.

A free, public ceremony is scheduled that afternoon.

The brothers grew up in the town and went through the public school system before becoming Navy pilots and NASA astronauts.

Scott Kelly spent a U.S.-record 520 days in space. He retired last month.

Mark Kelly, who's married to former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, retired in 2011.
