Elderly couple found dead in apparent murder-suicide
EWING (AP) — The shooting deaths of an elderly couple found in their Central Jersey home is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Mercer County prosecutors say 87-year-old Edwin Briehler and his 83-year-old wife, Lena, were found Tuesday. Police had gone to the couple's Ewing home around 4 p.m. after being called by a family member.
Authorities have not released further details on the shootings, citing the ongoing investigation.
Neighbors tell the Times of Trenton the couple had been in declining health during the past year. Lena suffered from dementia and was the subject of a SIlver Alert search in 2012. "They were fighting to stay together and in that house too,'' said Douglas Eldridge
