Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says the three Edison officers -- Michael Dotro of Manalapan and Edison residents Victor Aravena and William Gesell -- were charged Monday with conspiring to retaliate against the North Brunswick officer for performing an official act.

Gesell also was charged with unlawfully accessing a police computer data base to gather information on the North Brunswick officer, whose name was not disclosed.

Each of the Edison officers were released later Monday on their own recognizance. It was not known if any of them had retained a lawyer.

Carey says no actual retaliation was ever undertaken.
