An Essex County jury has convicted an East Orange man of killing a grocery store employee in Newark on Christmas Eve 2011.  After deliberating for just over three hours, 20-year-old Jaworski Sneed was convicted of murder and weapons charges in connection with the death of 47-year-old Daryl Logan.

The victim left the corner grocery store where he was working to break up a fight that had spilled out into the street in front of the store located at Osborne Terrace and Shephard Avenue in Newark.  The victim was punched and fell to the ground when Sneed came up behind him and fired, fatally shooting Logan while he was on the ground.

"This was a brutal, senseless murder of a hardworking, innocent man who, in the spirit of Christmas, was trying to break up a fight," said Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Kim Acocella.

Sneed faces 30 years in New Jersey State Prison when he's sentenced on May 13, 2013.
