a highway crashed head-on into a police cruiser, leaving the driver and an officer injured.

The crash occurred around 1:35 a.m. Saturday on Route 70 in Cherry Hill.

Authorities say the driver was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. The Cherry Hill officer had been traveling behind another westbound vehicle when that vehicle swerved to avoid the wrong-way driver.

The officer couldn't avoid the oncoming car and they collided.

The officer was treated at a hospital and later released. The other driver was admitted to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

The driver was charged with drunken driving. Authorities say additional charges were pending.

The names of the driver and the officer were not released.
