Drunken driver gets 8-year prison term in deadly hit-and-run
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- A man who was driving drunk when struck and killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash has been sentenced to eight years in state prison.
Edward Koloski also must pay the state Victims of Crime Compensation Board $5,000 for funds it provided the victim's family.
The 29-year-old Rockaway Township man had pleaded guilty in April to vehicular homicide, drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The charge stemmed from a February 2014 accident on Route 46 in Rockaway that killed 23-year-old Javan Robinson.
Prosecutors say Robinson was walking to a grocery store to busy snacks for himself and his pregnant girlfriend when he was struck while trying to cross the highway.
Robinson's girlfriend gave birth to a son 18 days after he was killed.
