Drunk, speeding driver causes lots of damage, South Brunswick cops say
SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A 22-year-old man was charged with drunk driving after hitting two mailboxes and two utility poles before running into a house early Saturday morning.
Police said Akhil Uppuluri, of the Dayton neighborhood, was driving his 2016 Acura on New Road at more than 80 mph when he hit the curb and lost control. He crashed into the front of the house at 281 New Road before stopping in the middle of the Route 522 intersection.
New Road was closed for about two hours for clean up and investigation.
Uppuluri, who police said was driving with a suspended license, was also charged with reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, speeding, and driving while suspended. The family member who owned the Accura was also issued a summons for allowing Uppuluri to use the car while his license was suspended.
Uppuluri was treated and released at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
