New Jersey State Police say one of their latest drunk-driving arrests involved a man who hit another car — belonging to the New Jersey State Police.

Troopers from Hamilton Station arrested Anthony Fanikos, 39, of Trenton on a charge of driving while intoxicated after he crashed his Chevrolet Impala into a troop car that was on a car stop on Route 29in Hamilton Township on Tuesday, State Police said.

At 9:24 a.m., Fanikos struck a troop car that was stopped in the left shoulder, State Police said. They didn't say whether he was given a breath test, but said he was arrested after investigating troopers observed signs of impairment.

Fanikos was additionally charged with possession of heroin and possession of paraphernalia, police said.

"Troopers are always cautioned about the dangers of conducting business on the side of the road. 'The bumper will get you before the bullet,'" State Police said in an announcement of the arrest. "Sometimes impaired drivers are drawn to emergency lights like moths to a flame. We are grateful that no one was injured or killed."
