A crash that killed two South Jersey girls returning from their high school prom Saturday was not the result of drugs or alcohol, state police said Monday.

Friends and family members of the teens posted on social media that at least three of the girls had attended Bridgeton High School's prom at Centerton Country Club in Pittsgrove Friday night. Bridgeton Superintendent of Schools Thomasina Jones identified them as 10th- and 11th-graders.

According to NJ Advance Media, 17-year-old driver Daisia Sulton and 15-year-old passenger Mikayla Mosley were killed and two other girls were injured in the crash while heading to Bridgeton from Ocean City around 3:45 a.m. Saturday. The website has reported that 16-year-old Zyiah Stocks and 17-year-old Jada Barriento were both injured in the accident, which occurred at Route 49 and Port Elizabeth-Cumberland Road in Maurice River Township.

The report states that the PT Cruiser in which the teens were riding missed a utility pole and fence on nearby property before hitting a tree. State Trooper I Lawrence Peele told NJ Advance Media that according to a preliminary report by the NJ State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, the roadway was clear and dry when investigators first arrived at the scene of the crash. The exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.

The Press of Atlantic City stated that another student killed in a recent car crash was laid to rest Saturday, just as word of this accident began to spread through the community.

A GoFundMe page has been launched by Sulton's family members, to help cover her funeral expenses. The school district is also collecting money to assist the families.

"There are no words that will ever be able to explain this lost," Lawrence Burden, the creator of the GoFundMe page said in a post.

Burden explained on the page that three years ago, Sultan's mother Andrea "tragically lost her husband in a motorcycle accident." So far, the page has raised approximately $2,700.
