Officials today announced the arrests of more than 100 adults stemming from a heroin investigation in Bergen, Mercer and Passaic counties.

Many of the accused have been charged with being leaders of narcotic trafficking networks and other first degree narcotic offenses. Bail has been set at $750,000 for many of the suspects.

As part of the arrests, more than 50,000 bags of heroin were seized, as well as currency in the amount of $110,000.

According to a press release from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the investigation was prompted by an alarming increase in the number of overdoses and fatal overdoses in Bergen County, linked to heroin and prescription drug abuse.
