Newark police say a motorist struck two men with his car as they walked down a city street, then got out of his vehicle and stabbed one of them before driving off.

Investigators were not sure whether the driver purposely hit the men and what may have spurred the stabbing, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday in the city's North Ward. The victims -- identified only as men ages 19 and 30 -- were walking along Martin Luther King Boulevard when they were hit.

Authorities did not say which man was stabbed or provide further details on their injuries, saying only that both victims were still being treated at a hospital Wednesday night.

No arrests have been made.
