Driver Charged in Easter Death of Howell Woman
The driver of the car involved in the Easter morning accident that took the life of 29-year-old Tiffany Soto of Howell has been charged in her death.
Edwin Marinez of Camden was behind the wheel of a car that the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office says headed down Eighth Avenue at a high rate of speed, crossed Route 35 and hit another vehicle with two people inside. Martinez sped through the parking lot of the Belmar Marina where 26-year-old Tiffany Soto was ejected from the car and was fatally injured.
The Prosecutor's Office says Martinez had been at Connolly Station in Belmar prior to the incident after the restaurant closed and smashed another customer's windshield during a fight. Martinez then got into his car with Soto and drove off.
Martinez turned himself into police on Monday and is being held on $300,500 bail at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. He is charged with vehicular homicide, causing a death while driving with a suspended license and criminal mischief.
The Prosecutor's Office identified Soto as the victim earlier to New 12 New Jersey. Soto was a 2005 graduate of Freehold Township High school.
Anyone with information about the accident should contact the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office at 1-800-533-7443 or Belmar Police at 732-681-1700.
