Donald Payne Public Viewing Begins Today
Two days of public viewing are scheduled for longtime New Jersey congressman Donald Payne who died last week.
The viewing for Payne, the first black congressional member from New Jersey, is due to start at 1 p.m. Monday and continue overnight until 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Historic Essex County Courthouse in Newark.
Superior Court cases scheduled for Monday in that courthouse are being relocated.
Another public viewing will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Payne's funeral will then be held there Wednesday, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.
The 77-year-old lawmaker died Tuesday after battling colon cancer.
