Both Governor Christie and the Democrats agree that NJ should look at extending the school day and possible year. How they want to go about it though, is very different.

The thinking is that a longer school day and or year will help motivate NJ students from an academic sense.

While the governor wants to implement a trial program to see how the longer school day would work, NJ Legislator Shirley Turner re-introduced a measure that would create a commission to look at the possibility of implementing a longer school day and year.

The 13-member panel would study the effects of a longer school year and report its findings afterwards.

By the time the findings are revealed, we are 2 years down the road and we haven't accomplished a thing yet. Is a panel worth it?
