Representatives of two medical groups have donated winter clothing, medicine and supplies to residents of Tent City, a homeless encampment in the woods of Lakewood.

The Ocean County Medical Society dropped off the items Wednesday at the camp, which city officials have been trying without success to close down for years. And the Medical Society of New Jersey handed out discount prescription cards to the homeless to help them purchase medication for conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems.

The camp is entering its seventh winter as homeless advocates battle efforts by Lakewood and Ocean County authorities who want the camp gone. The case is in mediation now as the sides try to come up with a permanent solution.
