Do you need the Wawa app to get free coffee today?
TRENTON — Wawa celebrates its 53rd birthday on Thursday with the gift of coffee.
The Pennsylvania-based convenience store, which has 750 stores in six states, including 247 in New Jersey, hopes to give away two million cups of free coffee — any size — to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of its first store in Folsom, Penn.
No mobile app is needed to get Thursday's free coffee, and there's no limit. Customers can just show their cup to the cashier and be on their way.
“Wawa Day provides us with a chance to connect with and honor the millions of customers we’ve served over the past 53 years who have been so integral to Wawa’s growth over that time,” Chris Gheysens, Wawa president and CEO, said in a statement.
The day also marks the third anniversary of the Wawa Foundation, the organization that handles the company's charitable donations. Gheysens said that the foundation has donated $35 million since its creation in 2014.
Wawa is adding four more locations in New Jersey later this year.
