Do you Find ‘Dude’ To Be Disrespectful? [POLL, VIDEO]

I don’t know exactly when it started but suddenly everyone is a “dude”. It’s like we all became ranchers overnight. “Yo Dude” Wassup Dude.”  Personally I find the term disrespectful and in some cases condescending. “duuude”

This argument was backed up recently when two guys I know were arguing sports and the one guy passionately to make his point exclaimed “DUDE!” to which the other replied .”Don’t DUDE me! I also heard a conversation where as soon as dude came out, the other person said ”Who do you think you’re duding?”

I grew up with “man.” “Hey man” “How’s it going man” Oh man! I must have missed the memo when we changed to “Dude” I’ve had e-mail negotiations that started off friendly and then escalated to “Dude”  to which I replied “Dude?”  That to my surprise, actually elicited an apology.

Also shouldn’t there be an age limit that you can use dude? I’d say 40, maybe younger. In fact I’d say you should use what you grew up with. Maybe we could call everybody “Dude-Americans” and be politically correct. Then again if we did that, we wouldn’t be Jersey.

For me, when someone calls me “dude” I immediately dismiss that person and although I may still be there, have already mentally left the conversation. I also realize now that I wrote this, the whole world is going to start calling me “Dude”
