"The divorce process can be a difficult one and many people want to thank their family, their friends and those who supported them and rallied around them while they were going through it," said Bari Weinberger, owner and managing partner of Weinberger Law Group. "In some cases, they are spending tens of thousands of dollars renting limos, renting halls, getting disc jockeys, going away for weekends and just having a wild time. Women are even selling their engagement rings and applying the money toward a party. Many newly single men are going to gentlemen's clubs or cigar bars and treating it like a new wave bachelor party."

It is always a positive experience when someone has gone through a very unfortunate circumstance and is feeling uplifted and empowered to start a new chapter in their lives.

"I think it's a good idea if they are celebrating a new beginning and feel that they have a new pathway for themselves, and they want to share that new found freedom with some good, close friends as long as they are sensitive if they have children from the marriage," Weinberger said.

If there are children from the marriage, it is important for newly single parents to give perspective and make sure there is no negative reference to the other parent when they are celebrating, according to Weinberger. It is important to focus on the positive aspects of moving forward without showing negativity.

The divorce process can take far more than a year's time and in many cases, that time has been filled with stress and anxiety. For many people, once the divorce is finalized, they can breathe easier and they feel like they have a weight lifted off of them.

So, it is a good way to break free.

The trend is becoming so popular that event planners are now advertising the service in many major cities. There are also websites which offer divorce party advice and ideas.
