Direct Air Cancels All Flights, Cites Fueling Issue

South Carolina-based public charter airline Direct Air has canceled all flights and there was no word Tuesday on when they might resume.

Myrtle Beach International Airport director Mike LaPier told The Sun News all operations by Direct Air were suspended Monday night. He said the flights were canceled because of a fueling issue.

Direct Air flies out of Newark Liberty Airport in this area.
It was unclear how many people were affected. The airline serves 17 cities in the Midwest, East and South.
There was no answer at Direct Air headquarters telephones early Tuesday.

The reservation number was answered by a recording stating all agents were busy and referring callers to the airline website. The reservation number did not offer the option of waiting for the next available agent.
The airline schedule lists no flights on Tuesdays. A number of scheduled flights Wednesday were listed as unavailable.

Allan Pilkey was stranded in Myrtle Beach and told the newspaper he learned he wouldn't be flying home Monday afternoon. Pilkey was headed to the Niagara Falls, N.Y., on his way to the Toronto area.
He says he was not given any options or reasons for the canceled flight.
