CHATHAM — Even though an investigation cleared him of being intoxicated and using excessive force, a veteran borough police officer did not properly record, nor report to his superiors, a December 2015 incident in which he allegedly told a security guard he would "blow his (expletive) head off."

NJ.com reported that Officer Roy George was found to have exercised "discourteous conduct" when called to the Bank of America on Main Street, on a report of a man in black military fatigues with a handgun holstered to his hip. The man, Joseph Kearney Jr., was reporting for work as a private guard at the bank, and alleged that George — on whose breath Kearney said he smelled alcohol — ordered him to freeze and drop to his knees.

George has not been disciplined in this case, but the report said he had been previously demoted and suspended in 2010 for leaving his police credentials, and a loaded handgun, on a Westfield lawn following a night of drinking the prior October.

Kearney, who was not charged, intends to file an excessive force lawsuit, according to NJ.com.
