First Lady Previews Speech [VIDEO]

Michelle Obama says she wants to use tonight's speech at the Democratic National Convention to remind Americans of the values that drive her husband to do what he's done, "and what he is going to do for the next four years."

She says she will "take folks back to the man he was before he was president."

The mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro, delivers the keynote address tonight -- a nod to the importance of Hispanic voters.

This evening's speakers will also include Lilly Ledbetter, namesake of gender fair pay legislation.

Mrs. Obama will also spend the three days of the convention in Charlotte, shoring up support among key constituencies. She plans to speak to the party's African-American, Hispanic and women's caucuses and address a gay and lesbian luncheon.

Democrats To Vote On Platform Tuesday

Delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., will vote Tuesday to adopt a platform they unveiled Monday.

It echoes President Barack Obama's call for higher taxes on wealthier Americans while backing same-sex marriage and abortion rights. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, co-chairman of the party’s platform committee, will address the convention as part of the platform presentation.

It's in sharp contrast to the Republican platform that would ban abortion and gay marriage, repeal Obama's health care overhaul law and shift Medicare into a voucher-style program.
