Democrats add pot legalization to 2016 platform, Jersey doctor agrees

It was only a matter of time before one of our political parties would try a “Hail Mary” move in a very important election. By “mary” we mean marijuana. The Democratic party has made marijuana reform part of it's official 2016 platform.

That means they will "encourage the federal government to remove marijuana from its list as a Class 1 Federal Controlled Substance, providing a reasoned pathway for future legalization." Weed is currently lumped in with heroin, LSD, and quaaludes in the most dangerous category known as "schedule one."

Dr. David Nathan, who participates in both New Jersey United for Marijuana Reform and Doctors for Cannabis Regulation, was in our studio talking about the connection between marijuana and opioids.

“Talking about this issue of opioid use, opioids being everything including suboxone, and heroin and percocet and all the legal and illegal pain killers, every year 28,000 Americans die from the legal painkillers from an accidental overdose, and the reality is that in states where there is some form of marijuana legalization, whether its for personal use or medical use, the rates for opioid overdose on prescription drugs goes down by 25%! So as Nathan says “When they legalize it, the numbers go down.”

Now we need to sit and wait to find out whether this “Hail Mary” completes its journey or not!
