The shooting occurred just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi says Delanco Patrolman Francisco Ambrifi responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance and found a 21-year-old man acting disorderly. A struggle ensued when he refused to comply with Ambrifi's orders.

Ambrifi fired his weapon during the struggle, shooting the man more than once, and the officer was shot in the left knee. Both were taken to the hospital, where the man was in critical but stable condition and Ambrifi was in stable condition.

Bernardi declined further comment on the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
