DeGrom pitches 8 shutout innings, Mets beat Giants 4-1

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- All-Star Jacob deGrom allowed two hits over eight innings, Eric Campbell hit a two-run homer and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 Wednesday to win consecutive road series for the first time this season.

Juan Lagares also drove in a run for the Mets, who took advantage of an error by All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford to break a 0-0 tie in the sixth.

DeGrom (9-6) allowed a double to Hunter Pence in the third inning and a bloop single to Brandon Belt in the fourth, then retired 13 consecutive batters. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year, deGrom struck out 10 and walked one. He is 5-1 with a 1.09 ERA in day games.

Mets starting pitchers have allowed three or fewer hits in each of their last four starts.

Jeurys Familia got two outs for his 24th save in 26 chances.

In his second start after missing 2 1/2 months because of a strained back, Jake Peavy (0-4) gave up two runs - one earned - and six hits in seven innings.

New York went ahead when Ruben Tejada singled with one out in the sixth and Daniel Murphy grounded to the shortstop hole. Crawford made a diving, backhand stop and, from his knees, threw sidearm to second. The ball rolled into right field as Tejada came around from first.

Lagaras hit into a RBI forceout in the seventh, and Campbell homered against Juan Machi in the ninth. Pence had an RBI single in the ninth off Bobby Parnell.

AFTERNOON DELIGHT

The Mets are a big league-best 20-8 in day games.

TRAINER'S ROOM:

Mets: Michael Cuddyer missed his second straight games because of a sore left knee, which has sidelined him in six of New York's last eight games.

Giants: Buster Posey was out of the lineup a second straight day with a tight hamstring.

Mets: Noah Syndergaard (3-4) starts the series opener against Arizona on Friday night. He has given up one run or fewer in three of his last four starts.

Giants: All-Star Madison Bumgarner (8-5, 3.34) starts against Philadelphia and fellow left-hander Cole Hamels (5-6,) on Friday night.
