Deal Police Captain Earl Alexander will be laid to rest on Friday following a car accident in Asbury Park on Saturday. The 38-year-old became engaged on Christmas Eve.

A viewing for police captain will take place at the Buckley Funeral Home on Second Avenue in Asbury Park on Thursday from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. His funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Church in Asbury Park.

According to Ocean Township Police, Alexander died in a one-car early Saturday morning when he lost control of his Accura on Route 71 and hit a utility pole. Additional information about the circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been released.

New Jersey Advance Media reports Alexander, a resident of Oakhurst became engaged on Christmas Eve to Krista Richter-DeLisa who called him the "best man ever," who loved NASCAR and was active in the community.

"His resume is 16 pages long of leadership and command classes. He didn't want anything to be negative, no matter how bad (expletive) was," his fiance said. "He just always found the positive. And he just loved his children so much. We had fun. We laughed all the time."

The resident of Oakhurst, is a past chief of the Oakhurst Independent Hose Company #1.

Chrissie Calder, Earl's sister, has created a GoFundMe page to collect donations to be set aside money for his children.

"Taylor and Earl bring so much joy and energy to our lives. They are loved unconditionally by many of us, so no donation is too small," wrote Calder.

A number of Monmouth County fire and police departments have expressed their condolences.
