SPRINGFIELD (Burlington) — After the Burlington County Health Department found a highly contagious virus at the Puppy Barn, the store announced its intentions to close.

Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio said canine parvovirus, which can be fatal for dogs, was found at the facility.

"As a result we have placed the facility under mandatory quarantine and continue to monitor and treat the effected animals." The store's last day of operation was Jan. 17.

"The Puppy Barn has long been a member of the Burlington County business community, helping many families find loving pets over their decades in operation," Gargino said. "I want to commend the Burlington County Health Department and the Burlington County SPCA for their quick action to ensure the health and safety of these animals."

Animals from the store will be given to the SPCA only after the quarantine is lifted and they receive veterinary clearance.

The reaction to the closing of another store drew a much different reaction after the Just Pubs store in East Hanover closed on Saturday, according to a report on the Hanover Eagle.

East Hanover was the last of the stores in the chain to close after a history of violations had been cited.
