The state's congressional delegation will soon shrink from 13 to 12. The state lost one seat when districts were redrawn to reflect population shifts recorded in the latest Census.

Incumbent Democrats Steve Rothman and Bill Pascrell are facing off in a primary in the new 9th District, which contains parts of Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties.

Newark City Council President Donald Payne Jr. is the early favorite to succeed his late father in the 10th District. Sen. Nia Gill and Newark Councilman Ron Rice are also seeking the nomination in the Democratic district.

Shelley Adler, widow of former Congressman John Adler, is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 3rd District to challenge incumbent Republican Jon Runyan.
