Governor Christie has asked Attorney General Jeff Chiesa to investigate the state's visit to the Carneys Point home where a father posted a picture on his Facebook page of his 11-year-old son holding a new rifle. Christie says the visit raises some “troubling questions.” But what is the Division of Child Protection and Permanency response supposed to be to a call?

The DCF website says "any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or acts of abuse should immediately report this information to the State Central Registry (SCR). If the child is in immediate danger, call 911 as well as 1-877 NJ ABUSE (1-877-652-2873)."

Interestingly, the site also states that "a concerned caller does not need proof to report an allegation of child abuse and can make the report anonymously."

The site says that they will send an investigator within 24 hours. The caller is legally immune from any criminal or civil liability as a result of such action. Calls can be placed to the hotline anonymously.
