D’Alonzo Sentenced to Three Years in Ritacco Bribery Case

The Lavallette 55-year-old was sentenced today in Trenton by U.S. District Court Judge Garrett E. Brown, Jr., in exchange for his guilty plea to one count of federal tax evasion and one count of bribery.

Court records indicate that D’Alonzo admitted taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in kickbacks from Maryland insurance broker Francis Gartland between 2001 and 2006, passing part of the money to Ritacco in a scheme to maintain Gartland’s contract with the district.

Gartland, 71, and Ritacco, 66, each were sentenced to 135 months in prison earlier this year.

D’Alonzo also admitted omitting hundreds of thousands of dollars he amassed through the scheme when filing his federal tax form for 2005.

He’ll be subject to three years supervised release under terms of his plea bargain. A hearing this Wednesday before Judge Joel A. Pisano in Trenton will determine the amount of restitution and forfeiture for which D’Alonzo will be held accountable.
