At the beginning of last night's show, I questioned why Brookdale Community College suspended a student who allegedly was part of a cabal hurling obscene and vulgar tweets about the daughter of former Phillies and Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.

It all came about when Schilling took to twitter to announce that his daughter Gabby would be pitching softball collegiately next year at Salve Regina in Rhode Island.

Following a gaggle of congratulatory tweets, a number of obscene tweets followed, allegedly started by a couple of “Jersey Boys” named by Schilling.

"'The Sports Guru'? Ya he's a DJ named Adam Nagel (DJ is a bit strong since he's on the air for 1 hour a week) on Brookdale Student Radio at Brookdale Community College. How do you think that place feels about this stud representing their school? You don't think this isn't going to be a nice compilation that will show up every single time this idiot is googled the rest of his life? What happens when a potential woman he's after googles and reads this?

"The other clown? He's VP of the Theta Xi fraternity at Montclair State University. I gotta believe if Theta Xi is cool with a VP of one of their chapters acting like this I'd prefer to have no one I know in it. Also, does anyone attending Montclair State University have a student handbook? If so can you pass it along because I am pretty sure there are about 90 violations in this idiots tweets."

According to Brookdale spokesman Keith Heumiller, the student in question, Adam Nagel, was a member of the Student Radio Club, and had an hour long weekly slot on one of the college’s radio streams.

"The student was not, at any time, an employee or representative of Brookdale Public Radio,"
"He has been removed from his student role with WBJB and suspended from the college, pending an official review that will determine the need for further disciplinary action."

Upon finishing my show last night, I heard from a listener who goes by the name “Steve F” who was nice enough to send me a copy of the Brookdale Code of Conduct.

It specifically states under the heading “Violations”

The following offenses could be determined to be minor or major offenses at the discretion of the hearing officer:

And among them:

Physical abuse or threats thereof against any person or persons, or other conduct which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any such person or persons.

It’s no shock that the comments made about the duo on social media reflect the original comments both allegedly prompted against Schilling’s daughter.

It sad though because, while “karma is a bitch,” and they are deservedly reaping what they’ve sewn - social media tends to brings out the worst in us.

Social media can either be your best friend, or turn into your worst enemy.

Are these two internet trolls getting what they deserve?
