Dr. Lisa DeRogatis Sulsenti found herself on a journey trying to help her son, and through the process began hosting free support groups and mini-workshops at her chiropractic office in Brick Township.

She said she met several parents facing the same obstacles. “The problem was trying to get the classroom to work for the child.”  As a result, she decided to help organize a much larger-scale forum to offer help on how to make classroom settings academic environment that work for children with neurological problems.

Sulsenti said many educators recognize its a growing problem and seem receptive to finding a solution and working together. “They’re finding there’s a very big need for it and everybody seems to open to learning and figuring out how we can make these classrooms better.”

The Overtilted Child seminar is being held on Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Silverton Fire House in Toms River.  Six professional speakers will offer ideas and solutions.  Registration is $46.00 for parents and paraprofessionals and $76.00 for teachers and administrators. Register at
