ABERDEEN - A couple  from Ocean County  were killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway late Saturday afternoon when their sports car was hit from behind by a sports utility vehicle.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn said a preliminary investigation showed the Chevrolet Camaro driven by Kyia Fredericks, 26, of Brick was stopped in the center lane of the southbound express lanes at the Old Bridge/Aberdeen line near Exit No. 120 when it was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Yukon.

Fredericks and passenger Rene Munoz, 29, of Toms River were both pronounced dead at the scene. William, Owens, 60, of Howell who was driving the Yukon suffered minor injuries.

Flynn said the investigation is ongoing and it has not been determined why Fredericks' car was stopped. No charges have been filed in the case.

The express lanes of the Parkway were closed for about 3 hours for the cleanup, and the investigation of the crash created a delay that stretched back to the Driscoll Bridge.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call State Police at 609-882-2000.
