VENTNOR CITY — Police found the bodies of a man and a woman inside a Ventnor home Wednesday. Both died of apparent gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Ventnor City police responded to the North Oxford Avenue home Wednesday at 1:31 p.m. after receiving a call asking for officers to check on the well-being of the residents, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton said in a statement.

When police arrived, they found the bodies of the man and woman, whose identities  have not yet been released. The two occupants of the home had suffered apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene by members of the New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and an Atlantic County nurse pronouncer, authorities said.

The prosecutor said autopsies on the man and woman are pending and they are attempting to notify the next-of-kin.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that there is no continuing threat to the public stemming from this incident,” Ruberton said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and anyone with information is being asked to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666, or the Ventnor City Police Department at 609-822-2101.
