News that several incidents of jerks dressed like clowns were running around Phillipsburg, NJ purposely scaring children has a lot of people angry. In one case three people dressed as clowns came running out from the woods to chase a child. Things get more suspicious when you hear this has been happening in various places in Pennsylvania over the past few weeks. More suspicious still when you hear it's been all over the nation. Yet not a single incident where anyone was actually harmed. Hmmm.

My mind immediately therefore goes to some twisted viral marketing campaign. This has happened before. Fuzz On The Lens, a video production company, was behind the Staten Island Clown scare and viral marketing campaign back in 2014 and Vic Dibetetto was caught up in that whole mess. It gets people talking and doesn't cost a dime.

So what could be behind this? I'm wondering if it has anything to do with this terrible looking Rob Zombie movie 31. The plot is where five people are kidnapped and held in an abandoned compound and forced to take part in a violent game. The goal is to survive 12 hours against scary, sadistic clowns.

Check out the trailer for the movie, which by the way I can't find playing anywhere near me even though the release date was recent. So yeah, maybe it's been a flop and just maybe this has been a stupid viral marketing campaign to prop it up?
