Cory Booker Helps With Marriage Proposal
Mayor Cory Booker has rescued a woman from a burning building, sheltered residents from Superstorm Sandy, shoveled snow for constituents and helped find shelter for a dog left outside in the cold. Now he can add matchmaker.
Attorney Israel Burns tells Buzz Feed he contacted Booker to ask for his help in proposing to his girlfriend Misha Wright at the Asian American Bar Association of New York's annual dinner at Cipriani Wall in Manhattan, the event where he couple first met a year ago.
Both Burns, who attended Law School in Newark, and Wright are big fans of the possible U.S. Senate candidate. Burns tweeted Booker to ask if he would be in New York the day of the dinner and Booker said no but added, "I am a romantic. Please DM me. Sounds fun."
"We personally admire the work that he's done in Newark in terms of revitalizing the political youth, so we are big fans," Burns told Buzz Feed.
Booker's part in the proposal was to call Burns' cell phone while he left the table, leaving Wright to answer. He told her he was with Burns on the second floor and she should join them. Wright came upstairs where Burns popped the question.
"Taking a few minutes out of my hectic day to be a small part of that was a gift to me," Booker told Buzz Feed about being part of the proposal. He said it was his first time being part of a marriage proposal.
