A man who allegedly took his wife hostage, threatened to kill her and shot at police during a standoff at a Jersey City apartment is now in custody.

The Jersey Journal reports that police went to the apartment around 12:40 p.m. Saturday after the woman's sister reported what was happening. She also told them there were firearms in the apartment.

A city spokeswoman says officers heard the man say he wanted to be killed by police. A short time later, he allegedly fired two rounds through the apartment door at the officers.

The officers eventually entered the apartment about an hour later and arrested the man without incident. His name has not been released.

The man's wife was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries she allegedly received from him. But no officers were injured.
