Convicted Lakewood Cop Killer Admits Second Murder
The Lakewood 21-year-old already serving a life sentence for the gunshot murder of a township police officer pleads guilty to a second killing.
Jahmell Crockam today admitted the shooting death of Justin Williams, 20, in October 2010 in Lakewood.
Crockam is serving a life sentence without parole for the death of Officer Chrisotpher Matlosz. The patrolman was gunned down in his squad car in mid-January 2011. Crockam was convicted in February 2012.
Authorities in Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato's office anticipate that his conviction in that case will lead to a second sentence of life without parole, when the hearing is held. It's scheduled for August 9.
Crockam entered his plea as jury selection was about to begin for his trial. Williams, authorities say, was shot five times in the head and once in the chest with a .22-caliber handgun.
