BROOKLYN — I've you know anyone who was at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade Saturday, you've heard: It rained on their parade. Hard.

A few drips of rain here and there weren't enough to scare off attendees and photographers gathered as early as 10 a.m. along Surf Avenue (Mermaid Avenue, incidentally, is just one block down). But just shortly before the parade itself started, the skies opened up — leaving many taking shelter in bus stops, the boardwalk amphitheater and even porta-potties.

But the parade marched on for the 35th year in a row, with Queen and King Neptune Debbie Harry and Chris Stein leading the procession and helping keep spirits high.
