New Jersey's top Democrats have struck a deal over who should lead their party, while Republicans have re-elected their chairman for another term.Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono and state Senate President Stephen Sweeney announced Wednesday that the new party chairman will be John Currie. He's also chairman of the Passaic County Democratic Committee.

Usually, the gubernatorial candidate gets to choose the chair. But other leaders objected to Buono's choice of Assemblyman Jason O'Donnell and were instead supporting state Sen. Ray Lesniak.

Both those lawmakers rescinded their candidacies Wednesday in a move designed to stop a festering division in the party's leadership.

Meanwhile, Republicans unanimously re-elected party Chairman Samuel Raia to another term Tuesday night. Raia also serves as mayor of Saddle River, a community in Bergen County
