A widespread communications problem is being blamed by the FAA or delays at Newark and the other New York-area airports on Saturday night.

The FAA in a statement said their staff was working with local technicians to restore normal service.

The Port Authority in a tweet on Saturday blamed "air traffic conditions within the northeast" for the delays. Delays of at least two hours were reported on Saturday but service on Sunday morning was back to normal according to FlightAware.com.

Delays plus air travelers with time on their hands led to snarkiness on the Twitter.
