Coast Guard Station Cape May watchstanders received a radio call just before 3 p.m. Saturday informing them that the 50-year-old man had suffered a hand injury. They then launched a 45-foot medium response boat to the scene, which was about two miles beyond the bayside jetties off Cape May.

The boat crew was soon able to get the injured man ashore for further medical evaluation, but his name and further details on his condition were not disclosed. Meanwhile, the 18-foot boat he had been on was towed away without incident.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

It's not clear why or how the boat became disabled.
