The Coast Guard says an EMT aboard a rescue boat stabilized the 44-year-old master of the 55-foot Miss Brielle on Friday morning before a rescue helicopter evacuated him. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

While treating the patient, the EMT also had to stabilize the boat because the crew member didn't know how to operate it. It was towed to Sandy Hook.

The Coast Guard says the captain had a history of heart troubles. He was reported in stable condition.
