The shooting at the Clifton home was reported about 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Record of Woodland Park reports the husband and wife both underwent surgery that day, and the husband later died.

Authorities announced the death Wednesday afternoon and said the wife remained hospitalized. But further details, including the couple’s names and ages and when the man died, were not disclosed.

No one else was home when the shootings occurred, and a motive has not been determined. Authorities say the couple’s daughter owns the home and lives on the second floor.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating.
