An All-American (New Jersey) Christmas. (Craig Allen photo)

The PSE&G electric meters on the homes of two of my neighbors are spinning madly...and we couldn't be happier.

Each Christmas season, two of my neighbors, "FedEx Pat" and "Cornershow Bob" wage a friendly competition in the Christmas Lights department.  All of us in the 'hood enjoy the show...and its not unusual to see cars from far and wide driving by slowly, taking in all the lighted splendor.  The fact that I have been blogging about this event since November 26th has been spreading throughout Somerset County, and the state.

FedEx Pat put up his display during our 70 degree weekend after Thanksgiving.  After its up, he basically leaves his display alone.  Cornershow Bob lagged behind a few days...his main display was up December 3rd.  Bob continually adds to his display, right up to Christmas Day.  In his words, "an idea pops into my head, and I go to work on it."

Below, you can see the latest additions, as Bob has strung lights between trees, and through a mesh netting, that could double as a deer-catcher.  Just kidding Bob...as long as its lit up, the many bright bulbs should act as a bambi-deterrent.

To quote Bob Rivers' Christmas novelty song "The 12 Pains Of Christmas," 'tis the season to be "stringing up the lights."
