Authorities say an Edgewater man killed his wife and their 8-year-old daughter before turning a gun on himself.

The trio were discovered in their luxury apartment building late Christmas Day after a relative in Missouri called Edgewater police, worried they hadn't arrived and weren't answering their phones, NorthJersey.com quotes Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli saying.

Michael Stasko, 53, his wife, Melissa, 49, and daughter, Nellie, 8 may have been there since as long as Tuesday, Nellie's eighth birthday, the report said. Both she and Melissa Stasko were in their pajamas and may have been sleeping when shot, the report quoted the prosecutor's office saying.

Along with the bodies, police found a .45-caliber handgun with hollow-point bullets, Molinelli reportedly said. According to the report, there were no notes in the apartment and no signs of forced entry. The home was well-kept, with presents under a Christmas tree, it quoted Molinelli saying.
