Christie: Wife has retired after 3 decades on Wall St.

TOMS RIVER -- Gov. Chris Christie says New Jersey's first lady is now retired after three decades of working in the financial world.

The Republican governor spoke at news conference on an unrelated topic Friday. He says Mary Pat Christie made the decision she wanted to stay at home with the couple's youngest children.

Mary Pat Christie didn't return to work on Wall Street after the governor's failed presidential campaign, but Friday was the first time the governor addressed her work status.

She stepped down from her role as a director with at Angelo, Gordon & Co. before the governor officially announced his presidential bid.

Christie says his wife has been the breadwinner for years and after he leaves office in 2018, he plans to return to the private sector to earn a paycheck.
