Christie Releases Utility Restoration Calendars

Governor Chris Christie has released restoration calendars from the electric utilities that will give communities an idea when they can expect power to be restored. The calendars are intended to “create greater certainty, transparency and accountabilit” as to when power will be restored according to Christie in a press release.

“While progress has been made in restoring power to many businesses, households, and critical infrastructure in the aftermath of Sandy, there are still over 1.25 million customers without power,” said Governor Christie. “So many New Jerseyans have demonstrated significant patience and resilience through the storm and this initial recovery period, and it is our obligation to get them back online and with the certainty of a timeline they can reliably plan their lives around in the coming days.”

On its outage map JCP+L shows 654,494 customers still without power at 2PM.

PSE+G says 591,000 customers are still without power as of 2PM on Saturday. In a press release, the utility said, it has restored service to 65 percent of those who lost power in Hurricane Sandy.  In the last 24 hours, they say service was returned to all major gas refineries and 75% of the schools in their service territory.

Atlantic City Electric reports that 90% of its customers are restored and is releasing 700 crews that came to assist ACE personnel.

Springfield Mayor Ziad Shehady accuses  JCP+L of  blatantly lying about restoration figures and withholding information,” Shehady said. “Not only has the number increased, but the biggest alarm is that now you report more customers are affected than are served” according to the Springfield Patch. He fumes in an email that “The conference calls are absolutely useless,” Shehady writes.  “Area managers and representatives refer us to the conference calls for updates but the calls do not give new information and refer us back to area managers and representatives. This is circular and shameless.”
