Christie Reiterates US Will Run Health Exchange

Gov. Chris Christie says the federal government will be responsible for running the health insurance exchange in New Jersey starting later this year.

Christie made that declaration on Friday in a letter to Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of the federal Department of Health and Human Services.

It's a message Christie gave months ago, but he reiterated it on the deadline for states to tell the federal government if they wanted to be partners in running the exchanges, which are a major part of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

Christie says he's committed to following the law and outlines several measures the state has taken to try to make health care more affordable and efficient.

He has not announced whether New Jersey will expand its Medicaid program.
