PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) -- Gov. Chris Christie says he doesn't remember receiving text messages from an aide about lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

Regina Egea testified in July that she'd texted the governor her thoughts about December testimony on the subject but later deleted the messages.

The closures last September now appear to be politically motivated.

Christie told reporters Friday he has "no recollection" of Egea even sending him a text. He said lawyers hired by his administration to investigate the closures had "access to everything."

Christie said if he'd still had the email at the time of the probe the lawyers would have had access to it.

Egea said she was inconsistent with which texts she kept and believes she dumped the messages before the story erupted, but wasn't certain.
